U3A Frequently Asked Questions
Questions:
- What's the difference between google and gmail?
- How do I get to google or gmail after I have just turned on the computer?
- I've forgotten my password in gmail. What now?
Answers:
- Google is the program which allows you to search for things you want to know about on the Internet. Gmail (g-MAIL) is a program which allows you to send MAIL via the Internet.
- If you have just turned on the computer, wait for it to stop loading, then click on the big e icon on your desktop.( Sometimes you will find it on the taskbar at the bottom of the page.) To reach google, type google.com into the address bar at the top of your home page (which is the first page you see after clicking on the big e.) Click enter or go to be taken to the google search page. If you want gmail, type gmail.com into the address bar at the top of your home page, and you will be taken to a login page where you type in your username and password. If your email address is joebloggs@gmail.com then your username is joebloggs and your password is whatever you created when you signed up for the account.
- Check your NOTEBOOK or your gmail sign-up sheet, or your notes from Lesson 5. Failing that, ask Anne.
